If you are looking for freshly baked good quality pastry make sure to pay Fine Pastries a visit. With a store and two stalls at weekly markets you will be able to enjoy their products on a regular basis.
Fine Pastries’ weekly market stalls offer a variety of products to either enjoy immediately or at home. With their product range varying from quiches, breads, tarts, sweet pastries and pies one is sure to find a pastry that you like. I especially like their pepper steak pie (R20) and chocolate croissant (R12). The pepper steak pies are filled to full capacity with topside meat, and at only R20 it is a great on the go meal.
Myself and a friend visited their stall at the historic Oude Libertas Wine Estate’s (S33 56′ 26.164” E18 50′ 21.71”) weekly Slow Food Market just outside of Stellenbosch. The Slow Food Market is held every Saturday from 09:00 – 14:00 and offers one good food, good drinks and beautiful views. Unfortunately at the time of visiting Fine Pastries did not have a banner for identification, but you will easily find them inside the hall as you enter the door, look to your right and be prepared to start drooling. (The quiches and the chocolate croissant immediately caught my eye). Their breads are available in small and large so if you like it a lot you can buy one for home as well. With the products being baked daily in the early morning hours one can be assured your pie/bread/sweet treat of choice will be fresh.
And if you are in Cape Town you can find Fine Pastries’ stall at the Willobridge weekly Saturday Slow Food Market. At both their market stalls you can find any of the following items: Spinach & Feta – , Biltong & Cheese -, Roasted Veggies- , Butternut & Feta -, Bacon, Cheese & Tomato quiche all priced at R20 each along with Chicken -, Steak & Kidney -, Cornish -, Steak -, Pepper Steak -, Curry Steak -, Bobotie -, and Spinach & Feta also priced at R20 each. Also to be found on the Fine Pastries tables are breads and sweet treats which include the previously mentioned chocolate croissant, Chelsea buns and Portuguese milk tart.
Apart from offering various pastry products Fine Pastries also has meals of the day at their shop (Fine Pastries, Shop 137, Bosmans Crossing, Stellenbosch) which changes on a daily basis. Some of their weekly menu items have included: Calamari, spicy rice and cole slaw, Prego steak & chips, BBQ chicken with rice and pumpkin as well as beef & mushroom casserole with rice all priced at R33 per meal. Follow their Facebook page for updates.
At the moment you can contact Fine Pastries via their Facebook page if you would like to get in touch with them. Do note that they do catering for functions, so when you visit them and you fall in love with one (or more) of their products you can order it in large quantities and share with your friends & family. 🙂 Be on the lookout for their website which will follow in the future.
